Picture Books Come to Life for Kids with Visual Impairments!

Great Expectations, a collaboration between National Braille Press and Cartoon image of a child and dog flying on a book.
Bridge Multimedia
, brings popular picture books to life for children with visual impairments. This program uses a multi-sensory approach, combining songs, tactile play, picture descriptions, body movement, and engaged listening to promote active reading experiences.

Great Expectations also teaches parents how to describe images in a book, how to explore a book’s visual concepts, and how to play and have fun telling “the whole story.” Children learn to listen carefully to words, feelings (voice), actions, scene, plots, and character development—elements that they would otherwise miss by not seeing the pictures.
